Greetings Substack World! ☾
My friend recommended I start writing on substack for fun and I said “what do I write?” She said “anything.” So that is what I am going to do. Write about everything and anything and honestly sometimes I just really like the sound of my fingers typing on a keyboard…. ahhhh soothes my neurodivergent mind.
When I was around 5 years old, I started writing lists of peoples first, middle, last names, and birthdays in chronological order of who was born first over and over again in every notebook I had. I would then turn the page and sort them in alphabetical order. Although I have an aversion to numbers, I started writing pages of numbers counting up to whatever number i ended up on when I got tired. At 12 I started writing exactly 1 page in my journal every day for 8 years straight. I never missed a day—(as you might guess I have OCD, and I now do not write in my journal because it is a compulsion that turns into shame if I miss a day). For fun, I would go through dictionaries and write down vocabulary words and their descriptions word by word. It was nice to have an order to things. The definition of a word like “fact” could not change. It was a cause and effect and it was a soothing space for my mind to be.
(Then I grew up and of course I started realizing that everything did NOT have a perfect order. However completely fascinated I was with learning about the complexities of philosophy and morality If everything is good, nothing is good??? there is a balance to everything???? , a part of me was deeply disturbed that not even things written in textbooks were sound and without bias! The world is not black and white? HELP I NEED STRUCTURE)
—Anyway side tangent over, but I’ve never fully grasped that concept. It’s a beautiful thing for the world to be grey!
What a beautiful thing that there is no sense in creating. That while punctuation and grammar create order, cohesiveness, and understanding in language, we can write however we want, whenever we want and simply…. write for the sake of writing. I write to express, to soothe, to understand others and myself. I write because I exist.
Anyway……. I’ll catch you fools later substack viewers.
Big kiss little kiss, Summer
